Short Synopsis / Storyline / Plot
Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) is a bartender at a neighborhood bar in Brooklyn called Cousin Marv’s (James Gandolfini), which operates as a “drop” bar where criminals drop off money. Marv is shown angry at some people honoring the tenth anniversary of a man named Richie Whelan being murdered. On his way home, Bob finds a badly beaten pit bull inside a garbage can. Nadia (Noomi Rapace), who lives in the adjacent house and sees that the dog is injured, helps Bob patch up the dog. She tells him that the dog will be put up for adoption at the shelter if its owner doesn’t come to reclaim it. Bob agrees to take the dog and and names him Rocco, while someone watches them from across the street. When Bob goes to church, he doesn't notice fellow parishioner Detective Torres. The bar is robbed by two gunmen. During the robbery, Bob notices that one of the gunmen has a broken watch. Detective Torres shows up to investigate and Bob tells him about the watch. This upsets Marv, who knows that the Chechens are going to be angry that their money got stolen. Torres shows up to investigate and the next day, Chovka, the face of the Chechen mob wants to know why the cops know about the broken watch, and tells Marv to find the money. (From Wikipedia)
